Summary

Adds a new documentation page with recommendations for choosing the right navigation structure based on documentation site size. The page provides guidance for three tiers:

  • Small sites: Version selector (example: Koywe)
  • Medium sites: Product switcher + version selector (example: Webflow)
  • Large sites: Nested products with independent versioning (example: NVIDIA)

Each section includes characteristics to help users identify their site size, recommended configuration examples, and links to relevant feature documentation.

Updates since last revision

Added screenshots and site/page-level settings recommendations per user request:

  • Screenshots: Added screenshots of Koywe, Webflow, and NVIDIA documentation sites to visually showcase each IA approach
  • Settings recommendations: Added "Recommended settings" subsections for each site size covering:
    • Layout settings (tabs-placement, switcher-placement, searchbar-placement, etc.)
    • Site settings (default-search-filters, theme)
    • Page-level frontmatter examples (layout, hide-toc, hide-nav-links)
    • Audience configuration for large sites with internal/external instances

Review & Testing Checklist for Human

  • Verify the screenshots render correctly in the preview and accurately represent each site's IA
  • Review the settings recommendations for each site size - confirm they align with Fern's best practices
  • Check that the YAML and frontmatter code examples are syntactically correct
  • Verify the preview deployment renders correctly and all internal links work (versions, tabs, products pages)
  • Confirm the example sites (Koywe, Webflow, NVIDIA) are appropriate references

Recommended test plan: Check the preview deployment at /learn/docs/configuration/information-architecture, verify screenshots display properly, and review the settings recommendations for accuracy.
