Closing recommendation: do not merge.

TypeScript 7.0.2 breaks the entire test suite. The tap test runner depends on @isaacs/ts-node-temp-fork-for-pr-2009, which accesses ts.sys.fileExists — an API that TypeScript 7 has removed or restructured. Every test suite crashes with TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'fileExists') before running any assertions.

Since this project is pure JavaScript with no direct TypeScript usage, there is no benefit from this upgrade and no harm in staying on 6.x. Recommend closing this PR. Dependabot will open a fresh PR when the next TypeScript version is released, at which point we can check whether tap has been updated for TypeScript 7 compatibility.
