Backport #4809 To The 24.0.x Branch

Would it be possible to backport #4809 to the 24.0.x branch and release a patch version of that branch?

We have a user requesting this in Spring Cloud Kubernetes: spring-cloud/spring-cloud-kubernetes#2286

@ryanjbaxter I don't think this is possible because as I recall, that issue is due to an API change in Kubernetes itself. We tie major versions of this library to specific Kubernetes versions. The right thing to do would be for spring to update the dependency to 27.0.0
