Codespace DevContainer must include working `nix`

[vorburger]

Clicking Create a Codespace (on GitHub's UI) environment currently does not include a (working) nix.

The goal of this issue is to add that. It should also directly install/setup/use our nix.flake.

PS: #1656 is about sth. different.

Adding "ghcr.io/devcontainers/features/nix:1": {} in features to devcontainer.json fails:

line 995: /tmp/tmp.BPpdMxXHzd/nix.conf: No such file or directory

ghcr.io/devcontainers/features/nix is https://github.com/devcontainers/features/tree/main/src/nix.

This is NixOS/nix#6680 (comment), also tracked in devcontainers/features#275; both seem to say that it's due to the use of the universal base image? I guess I could try another more minimal one (and just install what's missing using Nix).

If that doesn't work, then try alternatives, such as:

Indeed switching from:

"image": "mcr.microsoft.com/devcontainers/universal:2-linux",

to:

"image": "mcr.microsoft.com/devcontainers/base:trixie",

does this trick; devcontainers/features#1517 raised to contrib.

Setup is now failing because of missing java, but that's expected; "running" the flake.nixshould fix that.

Which does not just work like this, nor with just flake.nix instead of ../flake.nix:

because:

I have created devcontainers/features#1518 about this. I'll try this next:

manually add the appropriate install command to postCreateCommand to your devcontainer.json instead.

I've done and thus fixed this in NG (AKA enola2) today, and will have to "backport" it here - some other day.
