What happened?

Now after i managed to login with VSCode. Everything looks good...

Now what? How do i use the AI? Under the mcp extention tab, there is no chat, or any other information.. Tried to use the "copilot" chat thinking i would be able to use the perplexity mcp in there, but nope.

Not a dumb question at all — and thanks for flagging it, this is a real gap on our side, not something you did wrong.

The key thing: this extension is an MCP server, not a chat window — so there's deliberately no chat box inside the Perplexity tab. You query it from an AI agent. That's why it felt like a dead end after login.

To use it in VS Code Copilot (what you tried):

1. Open Copilot Chat
2. Switch the mode dropdown from Ask to Agent — ⚠️ MCP tools only appear in Agent mode, not Ask/Edit. This is almost certainly why "copilot chat… but nope."
3. Click the 🔧 tools picker in the chat box and make sure Perplexity MCP is checked
4. Just ask, e.g. "search the web for the latest React 19 release notes" — Copilot will call perplexity_search

Confirm the server is actually running via Ctrl+Shift+P → MCP: List Servers. Requires VS Code 1.102+ (that's where VS Code's MCP support went GA).

On Linux specifically: if the Perplexity server doesn't appear in MCP: List Servers at all, the bundled daemon likely failed to start — grab ~/.perplexity-mcp/daemon.log and open a follow-up issue with it so we can dig in.

Prefer Cursor / Claude Desktop / Cline instead? Open the dashboard's IDEs tab → Sync, then ask that client a question the same way.

We're also fixing the root cause: the post-login screen and the README now walk through exactly these steps instead of stopping at "you're logged in." Sorry for the confusion — and thanks @ITFinesse for the +1.
